International Historic Motorsport Show

February 20-22, 2004
Stoneleigh Park

The first International Historic Motorsport Show was held February 20-22, 2004, at the Stoneleigh Park Exhibition and Conference Centre situated between Coventry and Leamington Spa.

The new annual winter event was not only an exhibition but also included events like an auction of important cars and motor sport memorabilia, a live rally stage and a Historic Motorsport Awards Charity Dinner. The idea behind the Show was to bring together all the major historic and classic event organisers, motor clubs, preparation companies and equipment suppliers under one roof.

The event was opened by Tom Wheatcroft, owner of Donington Park and founder of the Donington Collection.

There were about 350 exhibitors in the three main halls and approximately 150 competition cars on display, among which was a 1934 Maserati Tipo 8CM from the Donington Collection.

One of the highlights of the Show was when guest of honour and son of Ernesto Maserati, Alfieri Maserati, presented a solid silver commemorative trophy – the Maserati Targa (featuring etchings of the five Maserati brothers who founded the marque) – to Dean Butler, owner/driver of the rare Maserati 8CTF who won last year’s Historic Grand Prix Cars Association (HGPCA) races.

The Chairman of the HGPCA, Julian Sutton, said “It is wonderful to maintain this living link with the Maserati family who have made such a significant contribution to motor racing history”
