MASERATI EVENTS 2006

EAST COAST REGION

May 21 - Scarsdale Concours
Denis O’Leary III and Evan Cygler, founders of the Scarsdale Concours, hosted their third annual show in Scarsdale Village on Sunday, May 21, 2006 to benefit area charities. The show exhibited an extensive collection of exotic cars, including marques such as Ferrari, Maserati, Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Lamborghini, Porsche and Bentley. Unlike most car shows, the event offered spectators the opportunity to take a ride in the car of their dreams!
June 11 - Cincinnati Concours
Featured marque was the Italian beauties: Italian design and coachwork. Despite the weather and the extra time to dry the cars, the Concours lifted off right at 10:00 a.m. with all of the much anticipated marquee cars making their appearance. Concours gates were open to the public. Attendees enjoyed the Automotive Art Show on the Great Lawn, and all the trophy winners during the awards presentation. The owners were more than willing to share stories, point out highlights of their vehicles and even give additional show suggestions despite the mystique and high price tag of their companion. A world class exhibition in motoring excellence benefiting the Arthritis Foundation.
June 23-26 - Le Belle Macchine d’Italia

Joe Corbacio and his staff should be congratulated for bringing together the finest group of Maserati race cars that have ever been displayed in the United States. They included all three of the pre-war 8CTF Grand Prix race cars: the 1939 and 1940 Indy 500 race winning Boyle Special from the Indianapolis Speed Museum; Joel Finn’s beautifully restored and best of show 8CTF; and the 8CTF from the Collier collection in Florida which participated and won at the Pike’s Peak climb. The Indianapolis Speed Museum also displayed a Tipo 61 Birdcage.

In addition to these historic race cars, the very early Tipo 26B from the Lawrence Auriana collection was on display. Frank Triasi from Classic Coach brought two Birdcage Maseratis (Tipo 63 and 64), a 450S, and the famous 450 Costin Coupe. The Costin Coupe was driven by Stirling Moss in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1957. More details on the early history of this car and its conversion from race car to street use can be found in the March, 1963 issue of “Road and Track” magazine.

On display at the show was a new MC12 and many of the GT cars of the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

The weather was very nice for the Saturday car show. The same was not true for the driving event at Pocono International Raceway. For the first time in the history of this event, both days of the track event were rained out. As bad as the rain was, it allowed us to slow down our pace and meet new friends as we huddled together in the garages at the track. We were able to look closer at the details and quality of workmanship on many of the competition cars.

We thank the judges who were Stan Richart, Chuck Rine, Carl Canales, Kerry McMullen, and Bob Staaterman.

July 9 - Italian Festival, Canton, Ohio

We had a very pleasant drive on two-lane roads through quaint historical towns in eastern Ohio. The weather was perfect – an ideal summer day. The Italian food was plentiful and there was a good turnout of Italian cars at the Italian Festival in Canton, Ohio. We had an opportunity to meet several new Italian car enthusiasts and to discuss future driving events together with other Italian car clubs.

(Tipo 63 and 64), a 450S, and the famous 450 Costin Coupe. The Costin Coupe was driven by Stirling Moss in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1957. More details on the early history of this car and its conversion from a race car to a street car and be found in the March 1963 issue of Road & Track magazine.

July 15-16 - Pittsburgh Grand Prix
The largest car event held in Western Pennsylvania. Along with vintage automobile races, nearly 2000 cars will be on display on Saturday, July 15. Jaguar is the featured marque.
September 16 - Gathering at the Stevenson's
On September 16, Maserati Club International members Blake and Jennie Stevenson hosted a barbecue at their home located in picturesque Stonington, Ct. From their home it is a very short walk to a harbor full of sail boats, and just across the harbor is the historic village of Stonington. It was nice to meet new friends (Maserati owners) and members of the local yacht club. Over 60 people attended and there were 17 Maseratis, 3 Ferraris, a nice Alfa GTV and several other interesting vintage cars. The food was excellent and the weather was perfect. All in all it was a fun afternoon to share experiences and tales of Maserati ownership. We look forward to seeing everyone again at future Maserati events.
