2017 Maserati Quattroporte First Drive

When German companies launch a new luxury sedan, they chat about more power, better economy, and leveraged links to Silicon Valley's hottest microchip and graphics powerhouses. It's not like that in Italy. The Mediterranean peninsula only has one authentic maker of luxury sedans, and cutting-edge consumer technology has never been Maserati's forte. Continue reading

MERAK Late Chain Tensioner

The late Merak engine chain tensioner system was a big improvement in reliability over the older spring loaded type. The late tensioner uses engine oil pressure to keep the chain tensioned.

The process to update the tensioner is normally done when the engine is being rebuilt. It requires a special tool to be mounted onto the front of the engine block, allowing for the necessary attaching holes, and oil feed hole to be drilled for the fitment of the tensioner.

Only the very last production Meraks had the late tensioner system originally. USA delivered Meraks with chassis number 122.A.US.2000 or greater should already have the late tensioner, and European delivered after Chassis AM122.A.1152.

Earlier engines will not unless they were retro-fitted by the factory. When the factory retro-fitted the tensioner, they stamped the letter “T” or “RT” next to the engine numbers.

We are offering a complete late chain tensioner kit, and the original factory installation tooling set.

#403033820 (MC/88311) Tensioner set $1,563
#B.9890 Installation Tooling Set $850
Note: Tooling Set Rental is an option at a reduced cost.

Offered together for $2,200
